Road inspection work is to take place at White Cart Viaduct on the M8 between Junctions 27 and 28 from Saturday until next Friday.

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland as part of the Network Management Contract for the South-West Trunk Road Unit is undertaking the essential inspections in Renfrew from 8pm until 6am, each night.

The work will be carried out using overnight road closures and there will be a signed diversion in place.

These inspections will benefit around 51,000 vehicles using this route each day, by informing future maintenance work at this location to improve the condition of the structure and its carriageway.

This work will take place in two phases and the signed diversions will operate as follows:

Phase One – Inspections on the M8 Westbound will take place overnight between 8pm and 6am from Saturday 18th March until Tuesday 21st March 2023:

  • The M8 Junction 27 Westbound on-slip as well as lanes one and two of the M8 Westbound will be closed between the M8 Junction 27 on-slip and the Junction 28 off-slip. Traffic will be diverted via the A741 Renfrew Road to Arkleston Road, on to the M8 Junction 27 Eastbound on-slip and off at the M8 Junction 26 Eastbound off-slip. Traffic will then be diverted on to the Hillington Interchange roundabout and can re-join the M8 Westbound via the Junction 26 on-slip
  • There will be a total closure of Abbotsinch Road between Sanderling and Arran Avenue from 8pm on Monday 20th March until 5am on Tuesday 21st March 2023. Traffic will be diverted via Sanderling Road, to White Cart Road, Campsie Drive and on to Arran Avenue. This diversion will also operate in reverse
  • There will be a total closure of White Cart Road between Sanderling and Campsie Drive from 8pm on Tuesday 21st March until 3:30am on Wednesday 22nd March 2023. Traffic coming from the southside will be diverted via Sanderling Road, Abbotsinch Road, Arran Avenue and on to Campsie Drive. Traffic coming from the north will be diverted via St Andrew’s Drive and on to Sanderling Road

Phase Two – Inspections on the M8 Eastbound will take place overnight between 8pm and 6am on Wednesday 22nd March, Thursday 23rd March and Friday 24th March 2023:

  • The Junction 28 Eastbound on-slip as well as lanes one and two of the M8 Eastbound will be closed between the M8 Junction 28 on-slip and the M8 Junction 27 off-slip. Traffic will be diverted via the Sanderling Road roundabout and will take the exit to the St James Interchange where they will be able to re-join the M8 via the Junction 29 Eastbound on-slip
  • There will also be a total closure of the M8 Junction 28A Eastbound on-slip from the A737 Northbound. Traffic will be diverted via the Junction 29 Eastbound off-slip to the St James Interchange and can re-join the M8 Eastbound at the Junction 29 on-slip
  • There will be a total closure of Abbotsinch Road between Sanderling and Arran Avenue from 8pm on Wednesday 22nd March until 5am on Thursday 23rd March 2023. Traffic will be diverted via Sanderling Road, to White Cart Road, Campsie Drive and on to Arran Avenue. This diversion will also operate in reverse
  • There will be a total closure of White Cart Road between Sanderling and Campsie Drive from 8pm on Thursday 23rd March until 3:30am on Friday 24th March 2023. Traffic coming from the southside will be diverted via Sanderling Road, Abbotsinch Road, Arran Avenue and on to Campsie Drive. Traffic coming from the north will be diverted via St Andrew’s Drive and on to Sanderling Road

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.
