A man and a teenager were snared in a £1.4 million drugs and cash bust.
Steven Reid, 39, was caught with over £100,000 in cash after trying to flee from police in Glasgow’s southside on November 22 2023.
Officers later hit Reid’s home in Paisley, Renfrewshire, to discover the boy leaving with a holdall containing kilos of drugs.
The property was then raided and a hydraulic press was found as well as £30,000 in cash.
Reid pled guilty today at the High Court in Glasgow to being concerned in the supply of cocaine and heroin.
He also admitted a charge of dangerous driving.
The court heard that police were working on an operation into serious organised crime groups.
Officer received information that a blue Corsa contained a large quantity of drugs and money.
Plain clothed officers attempted to stop Reid who was waiting at a red traffic light.
Prosecutor Graeme Jessop KC said: “When Reid saw the officers he drove off and took off at speed on the wrong side of the road.”
Blue lights and sirens were then activated by the police who tailed Reid who failed to stop at red lights.
Vehicles on Paisley Road West had to brake to avoid collision with Reid’s vehicle who was going at 50 miles per hour in a 30 zone.
Reid then drove into a set of traffic lights which brought his vehicle to a halt.
He was removed from the vehicle by the officers and his mobile phone was seized.
Mr Jessop said: “Police searched the car and there were plastic bags with money inside.
“Inside an Asda bag there was £72,950 and in a B and M bag there was £23,390.”
Police then attended Reid’s home.
Mr Jessop added: “Officers saw a teenage boy leaving the address carrying a sports holdall and rucksack.”
Inside there were carrier bags which contained drugs.
A search of the property uncovered a hydraulic press and four blocks of drugs.
Two carrier bags containing £27,080 and £2,998 were also in the property.
Officers recovered a total of 14 blocks of cocaine with purity ranging between 77 and 86%.
This had a potential value of £1.12 million to £1.14 million.
A further four half-kilos of heroin was found with its purity ranging between 39 and 41%.
Mr Jessop stated that if subdivided there would be a potential value of £170,811.
Thomas Ross KC, defending, told the court: “He is aware of the outcome at this stage.”
Sentence was deferred pending background reports until next month by Judge John McCormick who remanded Reid in custody meantime.
