New research shows that our favourite thing about Christmas is the festive atmosphere with 40% of people saying it’s what they love most about the festive season.
The research was released as the Renfrewshire Gift Card unveils its Win Your Dream Christmas competition with a £1,000 Renfrewshire Gift Card as a prize, giving one lucky winner the chance to enjoy all of their favourite things this Christmas.
The Renfrewshire Gift Card, part of the Scotland Loves Local Gift Card concept, can be spent with over 130 local businesses, including shops, restaurants, attractions, giving people an easy way to support local.
Almost £15 million has been loaded onto Scotland Loves Local Gift Cards since the launch of the initiative in 2021, with over £640,000 of Scotland Loves Local Gift Cards purchased in 2023 to date.
According to the research from the Scotland Loves Local Gift Card, our second favourite thing about Christmas is festive events and activities, with 33% of people opting for this. 15% of people said their favourite thing is the presents and for 12%, it’s the Christmas food and drink. But there’s also worry about how to pay for Christmas too with 72% of people saying the cost of living crisis is a concern for them.
Euan Shearer, Renfrewshire Council Regeneration and Place Manager said: “The ‘Win Your Dream Christmas’ competition is part of our ongoing effort to encourage people to shop local.
“We’re blessed with some fantastic local businesses in Renfrewshire, with over 130 businesses now part of the Renfrewshire Gift Card.
“The ‘Win Your Dream Christmas’ competition is a chance for someone to have a worry free Christmas, enjoying the best of Renfrewshire, and it’s also a reminder that everything we need for a dream Christmas is right here in Renfrewshire.”
Colin Munro is the managing director of Miconex, who deliver the Scotland Loves Local Gift Card in Scotland alongside Scotland’s Towns Partnership, and said:
“Support for local is strong in Scotland. Over 98% of people in our 2023 survey said they’re keen to support local businesses this Christmas and 87% said they support local businesses to help keep them open. 89% plan to buy at least one gift card this Christmas. Choosing the Renfrewshire Gift Card is a strong show of support for hard working local businesses, whilst giving the recipient ultimate local choice.”
