Renfrew FC, fresh from last season’s promotion to the GreenVersity Premier Division, has secured the funding needed to replace its existing 3G surface at New Western Park.

The news, reported by Scottish Fitbaw earlier this week, comes as a huge boost for players, coaches and the wider Renfrew community.

On Friday, the club learned it will receive a grant from the SFA Community Spaces Fund—a partnership between the Scottish Football Association and the UK Government’s Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport—alongside support from Renfrewshire Council’s Artificial Pitches Grant Fund.

Together, these awards will cover the majority of costs for installing a new, state-of-the-art playing surface.

Club officials say the upgraded pitch will not only improve training and matchday experiences for the first team but also benefit every user of New Western Park.

Beyond the first team, Renfrew FC sees this project as an essential step in sustaining grassroots football across Renfrewshire. With a guarantee of quality playing conditions for at least the next decade, local youth teams, amateur sides and community groups can continue to call New Western Park home.

Scottish Fitbaw also reported that Thorn Athletic—another Renfrewshire club—recently secured its own funding package. A council grant for artificial pitches and £432,000 from the Scottish FA’s Facilities Fund, underlining a broader push to upgrade community sports facilities across the region.

Renfrew Fc Club President, John Gilmour, said: “On behalf of Renfrew FC, I am delighted to advise you all that we have been successful in finding funding to replace our current 3G pitch with a new surface. We were notified on Friday that we will be receiving monies from the SFA Community Spaces Fund, which is a joint initiative between the SFA and the UK Government DCMS.

“This award will assist the club in maintaining excellent facilities, allowing us to support our users by providing a state of the art playing surface for them to train and play on. Our goal is to help promote and develop our users fitness, social interactions and mental health in a safe and modern environment.

“This also allows us to continue to support grassroots football, for the people of Renfrewshire, over the next 10 years or so. We look forward to welcoming you down to New Western Park as we start a new chapter for our Club.”
