UPDATE FROM POLICE SCOTLAND: Renfrew Bridge has now re-opened. The item found was not an ordnance device.

Renfrew Bridge is currently closed in both directions after workers on a nearby building site discovered what is believed to be an unexploded ordnance device at around 10 am this morning.

Motorists and pedestrians are being urged to avoid the area and use alternative routes while authorities deal with the incident.

Police Scotland said: “Renfrew Bridge is closed after a possible ordnance device was found around 10am this morning on a building site nearby.

“Explosive Ordnance Disposal has been contacted.

“Motorists and pedestrians are asked to find alternative routes.”
