Six local ladies from the Hays Travel team in Johnstone are lacing up their trainers and walking the equivalent of a half marathon to raise funds for Quarriers, one of Scotland’s leading social care charities – and they’re inviting everyone to get behind them.

Yvonne Barber, Jillian McLeod, Janice McCallum, Hazel Chittick, Rowan Houston and Abbie Clark will be hitting the pavements (and probably stopping for a well-earned picnic along the way) in aid of Quarriers’ Countryview Service, which provides short breaks and respite for children with disabilities and their families.

The idea was a joint one, dreamed up by the team who wanted to take on a challenge together. With Quarriers based locally – and many of their customers having connections to the charity – it was an easy choice to make.

Yvonne Barber, Branch Manager, said: “The smiling faces of our team in Johnstone are more than just travel agents and we do more than sell holidays. We are part of our local community and are committed to making a difference to people’s lives.

“Hays Travel provides us with a yearly budget that we can use to sponsor fundraising activities to support those in need within our local community.

“We picked Quarriers as it is a local charity, our customers know what they are donating to. Plus, a lot of people supported at Quarriers come here to book their holidays and we are always delighted to take the time to help them find the right trip. We feel strongly about helping children in our local community and Quarriers has several services offering respite and autism residential care nearby.”

The team have a fundraising target of £450, and every penny raised will go directly to the children’s services that Quarriers supports in the Renfrewshire area.

The walk takes place this Sunday, 14th September.

The Hays Travel team are no strangers to fundraising, but this is the first challenge event they’ve all taken part in together. With an age range spanning from 21 upwards – and some of the team boasting over 30 years at the branch – they’re proving that teamwork, community spirit and a good pair of walking shoes go a long way.

Now, they need the support of their local community to help them reach their goal. Donations will go directly towards supporting children and families who rely on services like Countryview.
