Barshaw Park is bringing families together every Sunday morning thanks to the Barshaw Junior parkrun – a free, fun 2km event for children aged 4 to 14.
The weekly run starts at 9.30am and has quickly become a popular fixture for young people across Renfrewshire. Dozens of children turn out each week to walk, jog or sprint the two-lap route, cheered on by parents, volunteers and other supporters.
Organisers say the event is all about confidence, fun and getting kids active in a friendly, pressure-free environment. Some youngsters chase personal bests while others simply enjoy taking part and being outdoors with their friends.
Each event is run entirely by volunteers who set up the course, marshal the route, record times and make sure every child reaches the finish line with a smile. Parents are encouraged to run with their children or help out on the day.
Barshaw Junior parkrun is open to all abilities and welcomes newcomers every week. The organisers say no special equipment is needed – just comfortable clothes, trainers and a willingness to take part.
Families can register online for free and receive a personal barcode which lets children get their times recorded each week.
