A busy Paisley road was closed after a bus struck a railway bridge and became stuck underneath.

The collision happened on Greenhill Road when a single-decker McGill’s bus hit the bridge late on Saturday night. The road was extremely busy at the time, as a Scottish Premiership match between St Mirren and Celtic had just finished and crowds were beginning to make their way home.

The 41-year-old driver has been charged in connection with road traffic offences.

Train services running over the bridge were suspended for a short time while engineers assessed the structure for any damage.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 10.15pm on Saturday, 22nd November 2025, police received a report of a double-decker bus having struck a railway bridge in Greenhill Road, Paisley.

“There were no reports of any injuries.

“A 41-year-old man was charged in connection with a road traffic offence and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”

This bridge has been struck repeatedly over the past decade. Back in 2020, data from Network Rail showed the Greenhill Road bridge was among the most-hit in the UK. It was ranked 14th on their national list after nine incidents were recorded there in the 2019/20 period.

Note: Police Scotland’s statement referred to a double-decker bus, but Renfrewshire News can confirm it was a standard single-deck McGill’s electric bus.
