Voluntary redundancies have been approved within Renfrewshire’s health and social care services despite ongoing concerns about staffing pressures and recruitment difficulties.
The decision was discussed at a meeting of the Renfrewshire Health and Social Care Integration Joint Board on Friday, 30th January 2026, held in the Council Chambers.
Board members agreed to the use of £608,000 from reserves to fund a small number of voluntary redundancy requests. Officials told the meeting that the posts involved were not considered frontline critical roles and that the move would deliver recurring savings.
However, concerns were raised by board members about the risk of losing experienced staff at a time when services across health and social care are already under significant strain.
Senior officers acknowledged the pressures but said each request was assessed individually, with redundancies only approved where services could continue safely and without increased risk to service users.
The board was also told that workforce challenges remain a major issue across the partnership, with recruitment difficulties and rising demand continuing to impact service delivery.
Members agreed the situation would need to be closely monitored to ensure that short-term savings do not create longer-term pressures on already stretched teams.
