Shoppers at Braehead are being welcomed into a newly refurbished Primark store after more than six months of renovation work.
The popular fashion retailer began the upgrade in July 2025, with customers now seeing the results of the major refresh across the store.
The revamped shop features a modern layout where customers can browse fashion, holiday essentials, beauty products and homeware. The update also introduces a larger self-service area designed to make paying for items quicker and easier.
In total, the store now has 36 self-checkouts alongside 16 staffed tills. Primark says the change gives customers more choice in how they pay while helping reduce queues during busy shopping periods.
Primark first opened at Braehead in 2001, becoming the company’s fifth store in Scotland. It later moved to its current location within Braehead Shopping Centre in 2010.
Today the store covers 64,645 square feet of retail space and offers women’s, men’s and children’s clothing and accessories, as well as beauty and home ranges. Many items are also available through Primark’s Click & Collect service.
The store currently employs 272 staff. Store manager Derek Cooke has worked for Primark for more than 25 years and has overseen the Braehead team for the past two years.
Derek Cooke said: “I am incredibly grateful for the investment in our store as it’s made such a difference already by enhancing our customer and colleague experience. I want to say a huge thank you to my hard-working team and all our local customers who have been patient with us whilst we’ve completed these in-store upgrades over many months now – but I’m confident everyone can now see it really was worth the wait! We’re all looking forward to having an even more positive impact on the local Braehead community moving forward.”
Ashley Bisland, Centre Director at Braehead Shopping Centre, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome visitors to the newly refurbished Primark store at Braehead. With more improved facilities, larger space and fresh layout, it’s a shopping experience designed for today’s busy lifestyles. Primark is a hugely popular brand with Braehead visitors, and we know many shoppers will be looking forward to seeing the fresh new look for themselves.”
Primark now operates 198 stores across the UK, including 21 in Scotland. In total these Scottish stores cover around 755,000 square feet of retail space.
Research cited by the retailer suggests around 2.3 million people every week say Primark is the main reason they visit their local high street. The company also says that for every £10 spent in Primark, shoppers spend an additional £3.60 in nearby businesses.
