A small area of council-owned land at Seedhill Road in Paisley has been declared surplus to requirements to allow it to be sold to Scottish Power for a new electricity substation.
The decision was taken by Renfrewshire Council’s Infrastructure, Land and Environment Policy Board on Wednesday 18th March.
A report to councillors said Scottish Power currently has an underground transformer at Unsted Place, but that it has developed a fault.
Because of that fault, a new above-ground substation is needed nearby to maintain a secure electricity supply for surrounding properties.
The council land involved is around 30 square metres in size and the sale will also include a right of access for Scottish Power Energy Networks.
Officers said terms and conditions of the sale had already been agreed in principle and that the declaration of surplus land would allow the deal to go ahead under delegated powers.
The report added that the council would receive a minor capital receipt from the disposal.
During the meeting, councillor John McMillan said he had no objection to the land being declared surplus, but asked that any cabinet or infrastructure installed on the site should be kept clear of graffiti.
No other objections were raised and the board approved the recommendation.
