Construction has started on 12 new social rented homes in Barrhead on a previously derelict site at Cross Arthurlie Street.
Family-owned housebuilder AS Homes (Scotland) is delivering the development on behalf of Barrhead Housing.
The site, near Barrhead Park and the town’s train station, will have a four-storey block of energy-efficient flats, alongside a residential parking court and landscaping.
The development is the latest phase of a longstanding partnership between AS Homes and Barrhead Housing.
It also supports Barrhead Housing’s 2030 strategy, ‘Build homes, grow communities, delight customers’, which includes a £7.5 million investment in improving housing stock and an ambition to deliver 336 new homes.
Paul Kelly, Managing Director of AS Homes, said: “Breaking ground on this site is a significant step toward providing sustainable, affordable homes in an area of real demand. By transforming a brownfield site, we’re breathing new life into the area and supporting wider regeneration. Lorna Wilson, Chief Executive of Barrhead Housing, said: “This development reflects strong partnership working and a shared commitment to delivering affordable homes where they’re needed most. It marks an important early milestone in our Strategic Agreement with East Renfrewshire Council as we build momentum to grow our housing stock and support local communities.”
Construction is expected to be completed in March 2027.
