Excited children across Renfrewshire started their school journey on Tuesday 18th August, with more than 1,800 children beginning primary school.
At Dargavel Primary School, 75 children walked along a red carpet into the school for their first day.
Children arrived in the playground with their parents and carers before taking photos to mark the occasion.
Head Teacher Gerry Carlton, Depute Head Teacher Louise Farrell and three Primary 1 teachers welcomed the children. Once inside, they explored their new classrooms and began making new friends.
Jillian, mum to Lucie, said: “She’s been very excited but a wee bit nervous as well. She’s looking forward to making friends and drawing. We’ve got all the family coming up after school to celebrate her first day.”
Lauren, mum to Brodie, said: “He’s my third, so I’m not feeling as nervous as I’ve been before. I think he’ll be shattered after his first day, but he’ll be fine. It’s great my three children are all at the same school. It’s a great school.”
Donna and Alan, parents to Aubrielle, said: “We are super excited for her to start school, but she’s our baby, the youngest of three, so it’s bittersweet. We took lots of pictures this morning. I think she’ll come out of school with the bow gone and blazer crushed but she’ll have had an amazing time.”
Across Renfrewshire, more than 1,800 children started primary school and 2,000 young people moved on to secondary school.
Around 27,000 pupils attend Renfrewshire’s 63 schools.
Head Teacher Gerry Carlton said: “The start of a new term is always exciting, but welcoming our new P1s to Dargavel Primary School makes today truly special. The enthusiasm and big smiles set a fantastic tone for the year ahead, and our team looks forward to supporting each child every step of the way.”
Councillor Emma Rodden, Renfrewshire Council’s Education Convener, said: “Starting school is a big moment for every child and young person and their families. Whether it’s primary or secondary, it’s a memorable one. I hope every child and young person had a good first day and are looking forward to coming back to see new friends.”
Janie O’Neill, Director of Children’s Services at Renfrewshire Council, said: “It’s the beginning of a new chapter for our youngest learners as they get to know their teachers, make friends and become part of their school community.
“I hope all our new Primary 1 pupils have a happy first day and enjoy everything that school has to offer. I am sending my best wishes to all of Renfrewshire’s children today, whether they are starting a new school or returning to familiar surroundings. I hope this is the start of a wonderful year.”
