A bronze plaque could be installed on Paisley High Street to commemorate a visit to the town by Robert Burns in 1787.
Paisley Burns Club wants to install the plaque on the former Liberal Club building at 32 High Street.
The plaque would mark a meeting between Burns, bookseller Alexander Pattison and others at a house which previously stood on the site.
The proposed inscription reads: “In a house on this site in June 1787 Robert Burns met with Alexander Pattison ‘Bookseller’ and others”.
Plans show the 12-inch cast bronze plaque would be installed at first-floor level on the Church Hill side of the building, next to the existing street sign.
The fixings would be positioned in line with a mortar joint to limit the impact on the stonework.
The building is listed, meaning consent is required before the plaque can be installed.
Documents submitted with the application state Paisley Burns Club has permission from the building’s current owners.
Renfrewshire Council has submitted the listed building consent application on behalf of Paisley Burns Club.
The application was received and validated on 18th September 2026 and is awaiting a decision.
