Members of the legal profession, aspiring young lawyers and local supporters joined the Paisley Legal Walk to explore the town’s legal history and raise funds for the Access to Justice Foundation.
Organised by Paisley-based law firm MJC LAW, the walk started at the steps of Paisley Sheriff Court. Darkside Tours led a guided tour sharing stories from the town’s legal history.
Those taking part included sheriffs, judges, solicitors, Renfrewshire’s Provost and a representative from the Access to Justice Foundation.
University students and sixth-year school pupils interested in a legal career also joined the walk, alongside family, friends and their dogs.
Matthew Coffield, owner and director of MJC LAW, said: “We are delighted with another successful Paisley Legal Walk. Paisley has a rich legal history, and we can lean on that to connect the profession to the community and the community to the profession. Sixth year school pupils interested in a career in the law through to senior sheriffs who have a wealth of experience in the profession, the Provost of Renfrewshire, Councillor Lorraine Cameron, solicitors, legal students, representatives from Scotland’s biggest and best Firms; there was a place for everyone to get together and enjoy 90 minutes of stories about Paisley’s legal history.
“The Access to Justice Foundation were represented on the walk as we raised funds for their good causes. Well done to everyone involved in making this another success for Paisley and MJC LAW”
Welcoming walkers before they set off, Provost Lorraine Cameron said: “It’s lovely to see so many members of the legal profession here today, and I’m delighted to welcome you to our town for the Legal Walk, organised by our wonderful, award winning, high street law firm, MJC LAW!”
She added: “Thank you for choosing Paisley for the Legal Walk, thank you for the important work you do in supporting access to justice, and most of all, enjoy your walk.”
Sheriff Mohan, who attended Paisley’s inaugural Legal Walk last year, also addressed the group. He highlighted the importance of access to justice and the foundation’s work in helping people secure it.
Following the tour, walkers gathered at The Old Swan for refreshments provided by MJC LAW.
Matthew thanked everyone who had walked, donated and supported the event.
He recognised national sponsors, the Faculty of Advocates and the Law Society of Scotland, alongside local event sponsors Digby Brown and Walker Love.
He also thanked Paisley on the Web for its continued support, Darkside Tours for the guided tour and The Old Swan for welcoming the group afterwards.
