Self-employed workers, landlords and agents across Renfrewshire have just seven days left to submit their Self Assessment tax return before the deadline at the end of January.
HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has warned that anyone who misses the 31st January deadline will face an automatic £100 penalty, even if there is no tax to pay.
Nationally, 8.6 million people have already filed their return for the 2024 to 2025 tax year. However, around 3.3 million people are still yet to submit theirs and are now running out of time.
HMRC is urging those who are self-employed, as well as landlords and others who need to complete a return, to act now rather than leaving it to the last minute.
Anyone who submits their return early still has until the deadline to arrange payment of any tax owed. HMRC says the quickest way to pay is through the HMRC app, though other payment options are also available.
Missing the deadline can lead to further penalties if the return is delayed by several months, along with extra charges for paying tax late.
The Self Assessment deadline falls on Saturday 31st January. HMRC phone lines will close on Friday 30th January and reopen after the deadline, though online services and webchat support will remain available on the Saturday.
