A community walking group in Johnstone is preparing for its latest outing this week, with organisers inviting locals to take part in a new route through the town.
The Johnstone Walking Group will meet for its fourth outing since launching at the bandstand in Houston Square at 6.50pm on Tuesday 24th March, before setting off at 7pm.
This week’s walk will mark the group’s first visit to the Johnstone Castle area, following a route from Houston Square through Ludovic Square and up Linn Brae to Beith Road.
Walkers will then head towards Shanks’ Park, continue along Rannoch Road with Rannoch Woods on the left, before turning onto Elm Drive and looping back towards Beith Road, the Thorn and down the High Street to finish back at the bandstand.
The total distance for the walk is around 2.8 miles.
Organiser Joe said he is looking to introduce a new structure to help manage different walking speeds within the group.
He said: “I know a few of the faster people are a wee bit frustrated at having to wait for everyone to catch up while some of the slower people feel a bit pressured to walk faster so I think I have come up with a solution!
“Depending on numbers I am looking for a couple of volunteers to help me, so if I go in the faster group I would like a volunteer wearing 1 of my hi-vis vests in the middle group and another in the back group.”
The group is continuing to grow in popularity and is approaching 400 followers on social media.
Tuesday’s walk will be the group’s fourth outing since launching.
