Freya and Emily were the most popular baby names for girls in Renfrewshire in 2025, while Luca led the way for boys.
New figures released by National Records of Scotland show both Freya and Emily were given to 16 baby girls across Renfrewshire last year.
Grace was the next most popular girls’ name with 12 babies registered, followed by Charlotte and Sophia with 11 each.
For boys, Luca topped the Renfrewshire chart with 16 babies given the name. Rory followed with 15, while Theo was third with 14.
Archie, Leo, Lewis and Oliver all shared fourth place with 11 babies each.
In neighbouring East Renfrewshire, Muhammad was the most popular boys’ name with nine babies registered.
Archie, Finlay and Oliver were tied in second place with eight each.
For girls in East Renfrewshire, Daisy was the top name with eight babies given the name in 2025.
Sophie came second with six babies, while Aria, Charlotte, Isla, Lily and Rosie all shared third place with five each.
Across Scotland, Freya became the country’s most popular girls’ name for the first time.
A total of 268 babies were given the name in 2025, replacing Olivia at the top of the national rankings.
For boys, Noah remained Scotland’s most popular name with 318 babies registered.
National Records of Scotland statistician Anouska Pandya said: “NRS sends congratulations to everyone who welcomed babies in 2025.
“It’s always exciting to see a name reach the number one spot for the first time. Freya has taken a long time to reach the top. The name ranked 578th in the 1970s and rose in popularity each decade until arriving at number one in 2025.”
The figures also showed parents are increasingly choosing names beginning with the letter A and names ending in “ie”, with names such as Archie, Freddie, Rosie and Maisie continuing to rise in popularity.
