A local Councillor has welcomed a community policing model which has helped to improve relationships with local communities in Paisley North.
Councillor Mags MacLaren said this model of policing which results in police officers being assigned to focus in a particular area has helped to improve policing and community safety since it was introduced in April 2017 and regular community officers have remained in the area.
This allows them to become better known to local residents and to get more involved in local issues.
SNP Councillor Mags MacLaren for Paisley Northwest said: “The new community policing model has helped to improve policing with local communities and allowed residents to get to know their local community cops.
“I believe this new model of policing has helped to re-assure residents and to make the local officers feel part of the communities in which they serve.
“A report to the Paisley North Local Area Committee highlighted that that there were notable reductions in drug crimes and vandalism in Paisley Northwest since the same time period last year. I believe the local community policing model has helped with residents now being able to identify and chat to their local officers.
“A number of constituents have commented on the new model and how they feel it is working better as everyone within the community is starting to know who their local community officers are and find it easier to chat to them.”
