A music studio, run by young people for the community of Erskine, had a visit from MSP Ross Greer on Monday night.
Erskine Music & Media Studio, based in Bargarran Community Centre, are a creative social hub that centres its business around music, creative industry and live events.
They aim to create a safe learning environment for people young and old, offering a range of workshops and learning sessions. They provide basic music tuition in guitar, bass and drums, as well as training in film, photography and editing.
Ross Greer, Scottish Green MSP for West of Scotland, spent time with studio members. They discussed the projects they were working on as well as sharing their views on what issues they think should be prioritised in Scottish Education.
Ross said: “Erskine Music & Media Studio is a brilliant example of the success that comes when young people are in the driving seat of their own projects.”

The studio also mentors young people through their Executive Committee who meet weekly to run the studios social and business activities. They receive help and support in all aspects of their executive roles and gain valuable volunteering opportunities helping members into further education or work.
Ross continued: “It was brilliant to meet with the executive and discuss what they’re up to as well as what they think our priorities should be in Scottish education. We talked about the need to teach life skills and improve the quality and consistency of education on issues like sex & relationships, drugs and alcohol and mental health.
“This is exactly the kind of feedback I can take back to Holyrood as part of our campaign to fix Personal & Social Education in Scotland’s schools.”
