Local SNP MP Mhairi Black has praised the work of a group of Scotland Football Team supporters who raise cash and then donate it to a local charity at Scotland away games.
The Tartan Army Sunshine Appeal has been raising funds since 2003 with all of the funds going to not-for-profit charitable causes. Recently Mhairi Black MP met with John Daly, who is a Trustee of the appeal and also a local Renfrewshire resident, to hear about the work the organisation had been carrying out for the last 14 years.
Mhairi Black MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire South said: “It was good to meet with John and hear about all the fantastic causes the group have supported throughout the years. The charity has raised £127,000 over a 14 year period and they have donated this money to good causes all over the world.
“I heard about the many causes the group donate to and I really think it is commendable that this group of Scotland supporters target children’s charities that are not government funded. They help those that need it the most such as disadvantaged or chronically ill children.
“This weekend in Lithuania will be the Tartan Army Sunshine Appeal’s 64th consecutive donation at a Scotland away match. They will be donating a cash sum and football strips donated from various Scottish football teams to the Vilnius Social Club in Lithuania to help the kids develop their football skills.”
