In an extremely tight match, St. Mirren came out on top 2-1 with the fortune of a penalty shot and a Queen of the South own goal. The win keeps the Buddie’s hope alive of coming to at least fourth place in the championship. Stevie Mallan’s tenth goal in the 30th minute of the penalty spot, gave the Saints the lead after Darren Brownlee’s foul on Shankland. At the end of the first half Saints lead 1-0. Fifteen minutes into the second half, Gary Oliver equalized for Queen of the South, in the 62nd minute to make it 1-1. Not to be outdone, one minute later, Alex Cooper tried a cross, which was tapped into the net by Callum, for an own goal. The Buddies lead 2-1 at this point.
Saints trail Rovers by 11 points with 24 still up for the taking. They have faint hope of reaching fourth place.
In its eighth attempt since 2003, it was the Queen of the South eighth attempt to take the three points in Paisley.
