Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has attended a blaze at a block of empty flats in Johnstone Castle area of Johnstone.
Three fire appliances arrived at the scene at 9.52pm at 85 Elm Drive on Saturday night. It’s thought the fire was isolated to the top left floor but has now been extinguished.
Several blocks of flats in that area of Elm Drive, including the building on fire, are empty and awaiting demolition.
A spokeswoman for Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “Scottish Fire and Rescue Service attended a blaze at a derelict building on Elm Drive, Johnstone at 9.52pm after being reported by a member of the public.”
Local residents took to Facebook to voice their concerns about fire-raising and the time taken by the Council to demolish the derelict flats.
Councillor Jacqueline Cameron who represents Johnstone South and Elderslie told Renfrewshire News: “I understand Renfrewshire Council are working to a timetable for the demolition of these flats, however, the issue of fire-raising and those who put others at risk with this behaviour continues to be a problem in the area.
“Police Scotland and the Fire Service are aware of this and are working together to prevent and reduce these incidents.”
