Chivas Brothers has been given planning permission to build a new bottling plant in Dumbarton.
The Spirits producer has already confirmed their Paisley HQ is to close.
West Dunbartonshire Council’s planning committee approved the plan at their meeting this morning.
Gavin Newlands, MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, said: “This won’t come as too much of a surprise but it is still another confirmation that Chivas Brothers in Paisley will soon close their operations and move to West Dunbartonshire.
“Chivas have been based in Paisley since the 1950s and it will be a sad day when the company finally leaves the town altogether.”
Mr Newlands has written to the owners of Chivas asking them to recognise what Paisley has done for their business.
He said: “The people of Paisley have been critical to the success of Chivas and it’s only right that this is recognised in some way – one way in which this could be done is by donating the land to the town. I have already written to Pernod Ricard to confirm if this can happen. ”
All permanent employees based in Paisley would be offered new positions at the new plant within three years of the move.
Chivas Brothers currently has 460 full-time employees at Paisley and 600 at Kilmalid, Dumbarton. The new facility is scheduled for completion by the end of 2019.
