Renfrewshire Council has delayed planned increases to skip permit and H-bar marking charges after councillors questioned how they compared with neighbouring areas.
The proposals were considered by the Infrastructure, Land and Environment Policy Board on Wednesday 26th August.
A skip permit was due to increase from £182.50 to £200. The charge for an H-bar marking was set to rise from £275.30 to £300.
Councillor Ben Smith submitted an amendment calling for both charges to remain at their current levels.
He said: “I am particularly concerned about the skip permit and HBAR costs. In the report, it says that the officers have undertaken a review of charges, including benchmarking with other councils.”
Councillor Smith told the board that a comparable skip permit cost £98 in East Renfrewshire, £140 in West Dunbartonshire, £160 in South Lanarkshire and £143 in North Lanarkshire.
He said proposed H-bar charges elsewhere included £248 in East Renfrewshire, £179 in West Dunbartonshire and £250 in Glasgow and North Lanarkshire.
Councillor Smith added: “To me, the proposed increases in those two items are overstepping the benchmark, in my opinion, in comparison with neighbouring authorities.”
Councillor Iain Nicolson proposed that both increases should be reconsidered after further analysis.
He said: “I would like members to be in a better position to understand the true nature of the costs involved in putting those two items in.”
The board agreed to keep the two charges unchanged and bring them back for consideration when more information is available.
Other increases covering road occupation, road opening, traffic light and temporary traffic regulation permits were approved.
