Renfrewshire Council has not found an alternative site for Johnstone’s household waste recycling centre.
The position was confirmed at the Infrastructure, Land and Environment Policy Board on Wednesday 26th August.
Councillor Andy Steel asked what progress had been made towards identifying another location for the centre.
Gordon McNeil, the council’s Director of Environment, Housing and Infrastructure, said the existing Johnstone facility was Renfrewshire’s smallest recycling centre.
He said: “We understand that HWRC for Johnstone is our smallest site, and therefore it provides challenges. It has the lowest throughput and cannot take all the materials that some of our other sites have.”
Mr McNeil said finding suitable land was the first difficulty. Funding, staffing and other council priorities would also have to be considered.
Officers have held discussions about land ownership and planning issues, but no solution has been identified.
Mr McNeil added: “We understand the pressures that are there, but do we have a solution at this point in time? The answer would be no.”
No timetable was provided for finding or developing an alternative site.
