Johnstone Kirk Junior Drama will celebrate its 30th anniversary with a production of Disney’s Frozen Jr. this month.
The show will be performed at Johnstone Kirk, Quarrelton Road, on Thursday 17th and Friday 18th September 2026 at 7.30pm.
A matinee performance will take place on Saturday 19th September at 2pm.
Tickets cost £12 for adults and £10 for children. Children under five can attend free.
The junior drama group was established by Linda Rae following a production of Annie Get Your Gun by St Paul’s Church Dramatic Society at Johnstone Town Hall in 1995.
Local children were invited to take part in the show and their enthusiasm gave Linda the idea of creating a junior section.
The Kirk Session agreed to the proposal and the group held its first meeting in September 1996. More than 30 children attended.
Its first event was a concert in aid of UNICEF. The group later began staging shows and taking part in church services.
Productions over the past 30 years have included The Wizard of Oz, Annie, Fame and Summer Holiday. More recently, the group has performed several Disney shows.
Many of its productions were staged at Johnstone Town Hall before rising costs led the group to return to performing at the church. It also stages the church Nativity each Christmas.
One of its most challenging productions was Les Misérables School Edition at Johnstone Town Hall in 2007.
The show featured more than 50 children aged between eight and 17 and every performance sold out.
The group also staged a Let It Be concert in memory of honorary member Colin Rae in June 2025. The event raised £5,125 for the British Heart Foundation.
Linda has thanked everyone who has helped the junior section throughout its first 30 years.
