Residents are being asked to help choose the name of a new play park at East Fulton in Linwood.
The facility has been delivered through Renfrewshire Council’s programme of investment in play parks.
Councillor Robert Innes has been calling for investment in the area, particularly to address the lack of dedicated play equipment for toddlers.
Five names inspired by Linwood’s motoring heritage have been suggested:
- Sunbeam Play Park
- Talbot Play Park
- Hillman Play Park
- Rootes Play Park
- Avenger Play Park
Residents can vote for one of the five options or suggest a name of their own.
The proposed names recognise the role of the former Linwood car factories and the automotive industry in shaping the town.
Councillor Innes said: “I’ve been pushing for better play facilities in Linwood for some time, particularly because there was a real lack of suitable toddler equipment for our youngest children.
“That’s why it’s fantastic to see this new facility nearing completion. It will give children of different ages somewhere local to play, have fun and be active.
“I’m also really pleased that residents are now being given the opportunity to help choose its name. The five options put forward all have a connection to Linwood’s proud motoring history, which I think is a great way of recognising the town’s past. People can also suggest a name of their own, so there’s plenty of scope for residents to come up with something that means something to them.
“This is a great example of investment in our community that can benefit families for years to come in creating a facility for the next generation.
“I’d encourage everyone to take part in the consultation, whether you have a favourite from the five options or an idea of your own.”
The consultation is open until Sunday 27th September.
Renfrewshire Council will promote it through its social media channels. Signs containing information on how to take part will also be placed at the park.
