Underwood Lane residents in the West End of Paisley, all be it in small numbers, took to the streets in support of Renfrewshire Councils drive to clean up our inner cities and surrounding areas.
With the usual trash carelessly and fly-tipped around the streets blighting the resident’s views. The locals decided to join forces and take part in ‘team up to clean up’. They braved the cold and rain to bring some respect back to their little part of Paisley, the West End to be precise.
One area, under the rail bridge, has always been a dumping ground for as long as I can remember, as well as a place for people to drink, graffiti and dump trash.
Local resident Jenna Givens, with her husband, two children and a handful of volunteers managed to fill 21 bags of litter from Underwood Lane, Henderson Street, Sutherland Street and most of Brown Street.
Jenna Givens, said: “Our litter patrol may have been small but we made it up for it with bags and buckets of enthusiasm. The children enjoyed getting involved. I’ve had to BIN my shoes they were smothered in dog foul and lots of glass and needles. Not ideal or safe for the children to even Be helping but they smashed it.
“Fly tipping found en route and we managed to successfully tidy Underwood Lane Henderson Street Sutherland Street and Most of Brown Street.
“I’m super proud of my husband who carried all the litter bags all the way down the street any time we needed a refill. A fantastic way (and example) to spend a Saturday morning with our children.”

Someone had fly-tipped a broken glass window frame under the footpath rail bridge which was not only dangerous for small children, but for those passing through the dark unlit bridge at night.
Fingers crossed this selfless act will inspire others to take care when disposing of their waste and make Renfrewshire a better place to live and grow up in.
Councillor for Paisley Northwest, Kenny MacLaren said: “Well done to the local residents who took part in the clean up of the Underwood Lane area in Paisley’s West End.
“It is great to see that the message of the Team Up to Clean Up campaign is reaching local residents and encouraging them to do their best to tidy up their local area. It’s important that everyone realises that it’s all our responsibility to keep our local areas clean and free from fly tipping.
“The more the community works together the sooner we can have an environment we can all be proud of.”
