A Paisley Councillor has reported a damaged fence to Council officials after fears that a member of the public may ‘suffer a serious injury’.
Councillor Kenny MacLaren, SNP – Paisley Northwest, was informed about the damaged fence on Inchinnan Road by a constituent. Directly behind the fence is a ‘significant’ drop onto waste ground.
He told Renfrewshire News: “The poor fencing at this part of the pavement needs replaced. It is disappointing that local landowners don’t look after their sites and that the council has to step in and carry out the work.
“There is a significant drop from the pavement to the waste ground below, which is covered by rocks and anyone unfortunate enough to fall would likely suffer quite a serious injury.”
Council officers have investigated the site and have contacted the owners of the site requesting that they carry out immediate repairs to the fencing. However, the company in question – J W Filshill Ltd of 24 Macdowall Street, Paisley – have not responded.
Cllr MacLaren said that under Section 93 of the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984, the roads authority can take steps to repair or remove anything it considers to be a danger on land beside a road and recover the expenses reasonably incurred in so doing from the owner of the land. This means that Renfrewshire Council will make repairs to the fence and seek recompense from J W Filshill Ltd.
He added: “I am pleased that the council is acting quickly to make this area safe but there is a concern that the owner of this site appears unconcerned with public safety.”
