A motion at Renfrewshire Council has highlighted the benefits of volunteering within the community which includes boosting self-esteem, health and even boosting employment prospects.
The Environmental Training Team (ETT) is highlighted as a prime example of a volunteer-friendly organisation which provides excellent opportunities for those who volunteer with it.
ETT, based in St Ninian’s Church Hall in Ferguslie, work with communities all across Renfrewshire providing a range of services including decorating, gardening and general community clean-ups, including assisting in Renfrewshire Council’s Team Up to Clean Up campaign. As well as volunteering opportunities, ETT provides training and works with a number of organisations ranging from the Council, West College Scotland, Engage Renfrewshire and local community councils.
This has included helping Syrian refugees in Renfrewshire achieve their Saltire Awards for volunteering.
Councillor Kenny MacLaren, SNP Paisley Northwest, said: “The Environmental Training Team is a great example of a community organisation using volunteering to improve local communities as well as boosting the employment chances for those who join them.
“There are many reports which highlight the positive impact of volunteering not just on your health and self-esteem but also for improving employment prospects.
“ETT has an excellent track record on taking on volunteers, providing them with an incentive to get active and help out their local community as well as providing relevant training. This has led to a number of their volunteers obtaining employment.”
Councillor Stephen Burns, SNP for Paisley Southwest, said: “As a new councillor I appreciate the assistance I’ve had from ETT in organising and helping out in community clean-ups. This group have a great reputation for the work that they carry out and the support they give to their volunteers.”
