Schools and nurseries in Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire are closed today as scattered snowfalls contine across the area. The University of the West of Scotland and West College Scotland have announced that they will be closed today.
So far the only bus services running are the 901, 906 and 907 services to Glasgow, McGill’s said they are continuing to check road conditions. At 9.10am this morning, most of the bus services arecancelledanncled.
The problem appears to be untreated roads and Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire Council’s are working to clear roads and drop grit on main routes.

McGill’s Buses, said: “Our On Street Team are continuing to advise that due to continuing snowfall and untreated roads across Renfrewshire, East Renfrewshire, Glasgow and Lanarkshire we are still unable to operate any services in these areas.”
Some train services across the Greater Glasgow area are running, but we’ve been adviced to ask readers to check with the Scotrail Journey Check website: http://www.journeycheck.com/scotrail. Glasgow Airport has temporarily suspended operations while their teams clear the runway and taxiways to make them safe. They hope to repoen the runway at at somepoint this morning.
The weather this afternoon is to remain freezing cold as a strong easterly wind blows in frequent heavy and occasionally thundery snow showers, leading to large accumulations in places with temperatures struggling to get above freezing. Tonight further heavy snow showers and blizzard conditions as the strong easterly wind builds up significant drifts in places, particularly over high ground.
Scottish Government advice is not to travel unless you have to as a yellow weather warning remains in place.
WEATHER UPDATE:
7.30am – MCGILL’S BUSES: Buses remain cancelled across their whole network. They have ‘on street’ teams checking roads and conditions and will update if services begin again. Roads are being cleared by local Councils as we speak.
7.30am – GLASGOW AIRPORT: Due to heavy snowfall the Airport has had to temporarily suspend operations while their teams clear the runway and taxiways to make them safe. For specific flight info or register for live flight info at https://www.glasgowairport.com/flight-notifications
SCHOOLS & NURSERIES: All schools and nurseries in RENFREWSHIRE and EAST RENFREWSHIRE are closed. The University of the West of Scotland and West College Scotland are closed.
7am – RAIL TRAVEL: Check with this website before you travel: http://www.journeycheck.com/scotrail/
Transport Minister Humza Yousaf, said: “The Met Office is telling us that we’re going to see some extremely challenging conditions over the next few days, so I’d urge people follow police advice and to avoid travel in the areas affected by the amber snow warnings.
“Consider if you need to make your journey. If you do set out, you are likely to face disruption and could potentially be stranded, so make sure you are properly prepared with a winter kit, warm clothing, food and drink.
“The Police do not issue advice like this lightly – we are currently sitting at the highest category of amber warning, with the possibility of conditions getting worse, so I’d urge people to heed this advice. The Met Office has extended its amber warning, so these conditions will not just be confined to the east coast.
“Winter maintenance fleets are working 24/7 to treat the trunk road network and will be standing ready to assist motorists if required. We have more gritters available this year than ever before.
“To access the most up to date travel information, you can use the Traffic Scotland mobile website – my.trafficscotland.org – or the @trafficscotland twitter page. If you’re planning to travel by rail, ferry or air, please check with your operator ahead of time. It’s inevitable the weather conditions will also impact on other modes of transport.”
