A mobile community food van is nearing its launch in Gallowhill.
The vehicle was donated to Active Communities by the Royal Bank of Scotland.
Details were presented at the Fairer Renfrewshire Sub-committee meeting held online on Wednesday 2nd September 2026.
The service is being developed with residents and will operate as a mobile pantry rather than a foodbank.
Active Communities is also developing food kits and recipes to help people prepare nutritious meals on a budget.
Sarah Hand, chief executive of Active Communities, said: “We are very much building that now in consultation with the community.
“We had some usual administrative challenges at the get-go. You might all be aware that the van was donated to active communities from the Royal Bank of Scotland.
“It was a fantastic opportunity, but not all donations are instantly transferred into action.
“It took a bit more time to sort that out, but we are nearly there.”
She said discussions about the vehicle’s branding had helped Active Communities understand how residents wanted the service to operate.
She added: “It is not a mobile food bank or anything that reinforces the hardship, but it gives much more of an opportunity to think about how we can ensure that we have access to better food.”
No launch date was given at the meeting.
