Visitor numbers at GRID Braehead rose during National Cinema Weekend, when its ODEON cinema offered discounted tickets.
The event took place on Saturday, 5th September and Sunday, 6th September. More than 560 cinemas across the UK offered £4 tickets for screenings.
GRID said visitor numbers across the weekend were 15.8% higher than the previous weekend and 7.7% higher than the same weekend last year. They were also 11% higher than on a typical weekend in 2026 without a major film opening.
Sunday’s visitor numbers rose by 12.3% compared with last year, while Saturday’s rose by 3.9%. On Saturday, lunchtime visits were up by 28% and visits between 7pm and 10pm rose by 15% compared with the same periods last year.
Bruce Harley, manager at GRID Braehead, said: “It was fantastic to see so many people enjoying National Cinema Weekend at GRID. The results show that audiences still love the experience of watching a film on the big screen, whether they are catching a major new release, revisiting a favourite or enjoying a family film together.
“We were particularly pleased to see such a strong Sunday, especially around lunchtime and during the evening, suggesting that visitors were combining their cinema trip with food, shopping and other activities.”
