Glasgow Cathouse, Chris Glen & the outfit…
Bass player Chris Glen of The Sensational Alex Harvey Band & The Michael Schenker Group fame, put on a cracking show at the Cathouse in Glasgow with a little help from his friends. Chris’s band the outfit played tracks from Alex Harvey & Schenker back catalogue which had the fans including myself singing along while old friends of Chris took to the stage as guest performers to play along with the legendary Glasgow Glam Rock bass player. Harp Blaster Charlie Moffat of The Swamp Born Assassins & old friends of mine Fire Exit, took to the stage with his old friend to blow on his harmonica before Chris Thompson followed behind to sing and strum along with the band to continue what was a great night of live music here in Glasgow where many like Chris’s roots begin and careers have been made.
But Sadly Chris spoke of his old friend and keyboard player of The Sensational Alex Harvey Band’s keyboard, Hugh McKenna’s passing away which almost prevented the gig from going ahead. More so after the loss of drummer Ted McKenna, who himself a member of the (SAHB) and who’d only just passed away at the beginning of the year on January 19, 2019 leaving Chris with the shock of loosing such good friends.
But like all great performers, the show must go on and it was straight into Schenker “Armed and Ready” after the sadness and condolences were spoken. And even though Chris was forced to sit down most of the show due to a leg injury, he still managed to put on a great show even though they ran out of time before completing their full set of songs, resulting in the last few tracks being cut entirely. And while the fans were still demanding more as the stage light came up, I snuck onto the stage and asked only to be give Chris set list from the very man himself which will be yet another cherished part of rock history I’ll be holding onto for many years to come..
This was truly a great night for live music and a even better way to remember an old friend and long may they be remembered.
