West College Scotland’s HND Photography students recently went to London Fashion week as guests of Canon Professional Cameras.
A total of 21 students and two tutors Robert Tabor & Margaret Cambridge travelled to London to take part in a series of lectures about runway fashion photography and subsequently photograph two top shows at London Fashion Week.
Each student took up their place in the ‘press pit’ each having 20cm x 20cm of space to work from.
Tension was high as the countdown to the start of the show began. The students produced what was described as ‘commercial and industry standard results’
Robert Tabor CQL Media at Paisley said “This was a unique, glamorous and challenging experience for our students. Seeing West College Scotland Photography students rub shoulders with the world’s leading photographers and produce such professional results has been such an amazing experience”
The opportunity was devised by Canon Professional Cameras a long standing supporter of the course.. Their representative, Key Accounts liaison manager Matt Beard noted “West College Scotland have done so well, it was great to see both their skills and enthusiasm – this will I am sure boost their CVs and their employability as photographers in the future”
Gordon Foulds (20) From Renfrew said,’ “Growing up and living in Renfrew I really didn’t think I would ever get the opportunity to shoot pictures from the press pit at London Fashion Week. In London with the college we gained real and incredible professional experience. A lecture was organised by the college with a top fashion photographer just before we made our way to the catwalk and that gave us the confidence we needed”
The pictures taken by the students will contribute to their course work.
The HND Photography Course at West College Scotland in Paisley aims to provide students with real world photography skills. Several projects support this during the year including the architectural photography field visit to Berlin, Germany and the running of a commercial Social Photography Studio.
The course has sector leading work experience – giving aspiring new photographers the opportunity to test and develop their commercial photographic skills as they learn.
