Mhairi Black and Gavin Newlands has pledged to donate £7,000 from their “unfair” Westminster wage rise to charity.

All MPs have been handed a 1O% per cent salary rise from the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA) which means their annual earnings will rise to £74,000.

Paisley and Renfrewshire South MP Mhairi Black told local newspaper, the Paisley Daily Express: “Now is a time of austerity and huge financial difficulties for far too many people. It’s not right for MPs to have a payrise in these circumstances.

“An IPSA has gone ahead with these changes, I think it would be right to use the funds to support good causes.

“I will therefore establish a system where my salary increase will be donated to community groups and charities which operate in Paisley and Renfrewshire South.”

Paisley and Renfrewshire North SNP colleague Gavin Newlands has also pledged to donate his rise.
