Figures show that Renfrewshire has the second highest rate of searches anywhere in the UK, only behind Glasgow.
It means that 189 per 1,000 residents in Paisley and surrounding towns and villages were subjected to searches, resulting in almost 48,000 people being stopped by police.
A total of seven babies and toddlers, aged two years or younger, were searched by officers in Renfrewshire in 2014.
More than 600 children between the ages of two and fourteen were also searched.
Police say that most of the young children were searched as officers believed their parents or other adults around them may have been concealing drugs or weapons..
