Renfrewshire North & West MSP Derek Mackay is warning constituents to be cautious of a cold calling scam targeting households claiming Scottish Government legislation states they must replace their existing heating system with a new A rated boiler.

Housing Minister Margaret Burgess has confirmed that there is no such requirement in place.

Mr Mackay is now urging people seeking heating help to call the Scottish Government’s Home Energy Scotland advice service on 0808 808 2282.

Speaking Mr Mackay said “I have been contacted by a couple of constituents asking about this Government legislation, which does not exist. I therefore urge all constituents to be cautious of any cold calls they receive, especially if the caller claims to be calling on behalf of the Scottish Government or to let you know about new Government legislation.

“I want to reassure people that there is no legislation requiring anyone to replace or upgrade their heating system. If they do however wish to consider doing this, they can see what support is available by calling Home Energy Scotland on 0808 808 2282.”
