A man was killed at Milliken Park train station yesterday, making it the fifth death in five years.
Last year Humanist Society celebrant Joe Hughes, from Johnstone, was hit by a train at the station.
It is thought that Joe, who gave two decades of his life to the people of Renfrewshire, may have taken part in thousands of marriage and funeral services.
Back in October 2011, whilst taking a short cut across the tracks, David Forbes, 28 and Natalie Miller, 25, were killed after being hit by an express train.
Another was killed in 2010. Seventeen year old Anthony New was hit by a Paisley-bound train.
Andy Doig, Councillor for Johnstone North, Kilbarchan and Lochwinnoch feels there should be a safety review of the station: “My thoughts are with the family of the person who was killed at this difficult time.
“Milliken Park Station is very popular, for example, surveys show that 50% of Kilbarchan residents use the station.
“In the light of this high usage, and the number if tragedies that are happening at the station, I think Abellio/Scottail should review safety procedures at the station”
British Transport Police said they are not treating yesterday’s death as suspicious and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.
