A five year old girl has died in hospital after a road crash on Sergeant Law Road in Paisley yesterday.

Police have named the girl as Niree Johnstone from the Paisley area.

Police are appealing for witnesses of the crash that happened around 4.50pm where a 20 year-old woman was driving a black Vauxhall Corsa on Sergeant Law Road in Paisley.

The woman had a 24 year-old man as a front seat passenger, a 3-year-old boy and a 5-year-old girl passenger in the back seats of the car.

As the vehicle exited the junction at Sergeant Law Road onto Glennifer Road, it collided with a Grey BMW 120 vehicle that was being driven southbound on Glennifer Road.

Emergency services were quickly on the scene and the 4 year-old girl was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where she later died of her injuries.

The 20 year-old woman was also taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where she remains in a stable condition after receiving treatment for serious injuries.




The 3-year-old boy was taken to hospital for observations, was uninjured and subsequently released and the 24 year-old man who was a passenger in the Corsa was uninjured.

The 34 year-old man who was driving the BMW was uninjured.

The road was closed for around six hours as road crash investigators conducted a full examination of the site.

The police helicopter was also in attendance.

Sergeant Kenneth Malaney from the Divisional Road Policing Unit based at Greenock said today: “This was a serious road crash which has resulted in the death of a young girl. Road policing officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances which led to this collision.

"The road was moderately busy at the time of the incident and it is likely that the collision was witnessed by a number of passing motorists. I would ask that anyone who witnessed the collision to please get in contact with any information you may have.”
