Police have pulled a body from the River Clyde after a car plunged into it at Lapwing Road, next to the Braehead shopping centre in Renfrew this afternoon.
The incident happened around 1:20 pm.
The victim was a woman and was the only person in the vehicle.
It’s believed the car, driving at high speed, clipped another two cars before going though a metal fence and into the water.
Divers have been deployed at the scene, as well as a coastguard helicopter and fire and ambulance crews.
A coastguard spokesman said: “We received reports of a vehicle in the water with a person trapped.
“We have two rescue teams at the scene – Helensburgh and Greenock as well as as a coastguard senior officer and the HM coastguard helicopter from Glasgow as well as police, ambulance and fire.
“The helicopter was on scene and did a quick search and went and picked up divers. There’s now divers at the scene trying to rescue the person that’s trapped.”
