A man has appeared in court charged with raping a woman as she walked home from a night out at the weekend.
Stanislaw Merdacz, 38, is accused of attacking the 40-year-old in the Shortroods area of Paisley at about 2:20am on Sunday.
At Paisley Sheriff Court, Mr Merdacz, who is originally from Poland, made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody and is expected to appear in court again next week.
The woman was walking along Merksworth Way, Paisley, when she was approached by a man who pushed her to the ground and raped her on a grassed area at the junction of Shortroods Road and Mosslands Road.
Merdacz is accused of grabbing the woman, forcing her to the ground, punching her on her head and clamping his hand over her mouth.
He is then said to have pulled off her lower clothing, pulled rings from her fingers and raped her.
After the attack, she managed to get help from the residents of a nearby house and police were called.
She was taken by ambulance to the Royal Alexandra Hospital where she was treated and released.
The assault happened around 2.20am on Sunday 27th November 2016.
