In addition, to winning the trophy, Mr Newlands also won £1,000 for his chosen charities, with £500 going to The Tartan Army Sunshine Appeal and another £500 going to Brightest Star.

Gavin Newlands, MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, said: “I’m more accustomed to facing off against Conservative MP’s in the House of Commons but it was nice change of scenery to compete against Scott Mann MP in the charity contest on the oche at Alexandra Palace.

“I have always liked playing darts but never thought I’d ever be competing on the Darts World Championships stage at the Ally Pally let alone scoring 140’s!

“I am delighted to have won the Parliamentary Darts Championship, even more so as two fantastic charities – Brightest Star and The Tartan Army Sunshine Appeal – will now receive a donation. These charities do amazing work and I’m glad I’ve been able to give them an early Christmas present.”

The Tartan Army Sunshine Appeal has made a donation to a children’s charity in every country they’ve visited in which the Scottish National Football have played in: Visit their website at www.tasunshineappeal.co.uk/

Brightest Star was set-up in memory of Jack Kennedy who passed away 6 days before his sixth birthday and provides support to parents who have lost a child.
