A community garden in Lochwinnoch has been destroyed by arsonists.
The vandals, thought to be local teenagers, set alight a polytunnel in the grounds of Lochwinnoch Parish Church Community Garden.
Benches and other garden equipment were damaged or destroyed by the fire around 7.45pm on Sunday 16th July.
The repair bill is expected to reach over £3,000.
Peter Livingstone, who created a funding page online said (via his appeal page): “Unfortunately last week we suffered a terrible setback when the polytunnel was completely destroyed by vandals who had broken into the garden. In a flash our collection of tools, equipment, and materials built up over many years was lost as well as many plants.
“However we are determined to rebuild and we are now raising money for the clean up, to replace the polytunnel and all the lost items and to install greater security measures.
“We are hopeful that the garden will again be a beautiful and peaceful place in the heart of the village.”
Local MP Mhairi Black said: “Very sad to see that the Lochwinnoch Community garden was the victim of a fire caused by vandals.
“The community have rallied together and are raising money to replace the equipment lost in the fire. Any help would be greatly appreciated.”
