The future of an old school building in Johnstone will be discussed at a meeting next week.
The building on Beith Road was previously used as a storage facility by Renfrewshire Council but local SNP Councillor Andy Steel wants to see the former school restored to be used again by the community.
Andy said: “It’s a former school but I only found that out about a year ago when I read about the building on Johnstone History Page on Facebook. I wanted to take a crack at saving the building before it falls down.
“We have a few old buildings like Johnstone Castle which is now a home. It would be a shame to let buildings like the old school crumble so we need to do something.
“The building was formerly used by Renfrewshire Council to store items like Christmas lights but now it’s sitting empty.
The meeting will give anyone interested in acquiring, restoring and developing the old school building and saving Johnstone’s heritage, a chance to find out more.
Andy added, “It will be very hard work, but it only has any chance if the community gets involved.”
The meeting will be held in meeting room 1 at Johnstone Town Hall on Wednesday 9th August 2017 at 6pm.
