MSP Tom Arthur has recently met with Stroke Association Scotland to discuss their ‘My Stroke Guide’ initiative.

The ‘My Stroke Guide’ is a self-management tool to support people in their recovery following a stroke. It has been designed by working closely with stroke survivors and family members who have been involved in every step of its development.

The key features of the guide include information about the effects of stroke, hints and tips about how to deal with them, peer to peer support – including an extensive video library and an online form, and advice and signposting on the various issues people can face after suffering a stroke.

SNP MSP Tom Arthur for Renfrewshire South said: “It was a pleasure to meet with the Stroke Association and hear about the vital work they do in supporting stroke survivors.

“Stroke is the third most common killer in Scotland and the leading cause of disability.

“There are over 1.2 million stroke survivors in the UK each year, which is one stroke every five minutes.

“’My Stroke Guide’ is a fantastic resource to support people and helps to ensure that stroke survivors are never alone in their recovery. The guide is a very useful tool and I would recommend it to stroke survivors to help understand stroke and deal with its effects.”
