St Mirren  3 – 1 Hearts U20

Reilly’s double pack ensured that St. Mirren prevailed 3-1 over young Hearts side in the IRN-BRU Scottish Challenge Cup.  Reilly scored in the 8th minute to give Saints a 1-0 lead at the half.  Shortly after the start of the second half Reilly made it 2-0 Saints.  The attendance for the match was 1,130 thanks to 109 Hearts fans.  Just two minutes into the match Saints had their first corner, but it wasn’t until the 8th minute that Gavin Reilley opened the scoring after he curled a ball just beyond Kelby from just inside the box.  In the 15th Kelby holds a shot off Conor O’Keefe.  In the 18th Cammy Smith had a great cross, which was headed out for a corner.  Another low drive by Reilley is well held by Kelby.

Although Saints had good chances, the match wasn’t totally one sided.  Ross Stewart was forced to make a safe in the 28th on an effort by Hearts Angus Beith.  The ensuing tip ends as a corner.  Although it’s played short, communications were lacking as no one can get on Callum Morrison’s ball across.

In the 30th the Jambos cleared one of the line, but Reilly looks for Cammy Smith who was ready to knock it home.  This result in another Saints corner, which results in another, which is eventually put wide by Buchanan.  Reilly gets another chance in the 33rd as Dale Hilson’s shot is palmed his way.  The striker skies it.  Hearts had a few chances at the other end in an attempt to equalize.  Those attacks were held off. 1-0 Saints at the break.

Based on the play and chances during the first half, the score should have been much higher, but then that’s football.

Early into the second half Reilly finally got his second goal, after getting on the end of McGinn’s through ball.  In the 58tminuteed McShane fired a shot from a 20 yard penalty just wide of the right hand post

In the 67th Hearts attempt to get back into the match, as Angus Beith curls a low effort just by the post.  Hearts pull one back in the 57th minute when Saints fail to clear a corner and Rory Currie tabs it home.  2-1 Saints.

Sutton opens the gap to 3-1 Saints in the 83rd on an assist from Reilly who tipped it in the six yard box.  This was the final score and keeps Saints alive in the IRN-BRU Cup
