Police are appealing for witnesses after an 80-year-old man was killed after being struck by a car on Hawkhead Road, Paisley.

John Moncrieff, who was named by Police today, was from Paisley.

He was crossing Hawkhead Road, near to the Gulf Garage, when he was struck by a grey coloured Vauxhall Astra, travelling northbound on Hawkhead Road at around 7.15am on Tuesday morning.

Emergency services attended, however, Mr Moncrieff was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the car was uninjured and has been left badly shaken.

The road was closed as crash scene investigators examined the location and enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the incident.

Sergeant Kenneth Malaney said: “I would like to appeal to any motorists who were travelling on Hawkhead Road, in either direction, around the time of the incident to contact us. In particular, if anyone has any dash cam footage which may have captured any information which could assist our investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to call officers at Greenock Police Station via 101, quoting incident number 0384 of 31 October 2017.
