Caring for an adult through illness can deepen and enrich relationships, becoming a time full of love. However, it can also be lonely, hard work and worrying – wondering if you are doing things right. St. Vincent’s Hospice are running a practical-skills for Carers Group which hopes to address some of these challenges.
Starting on Wednesday 31st January and running for six weeks, the course will focus on giving carers advice on different practical issues, answering any questions or concerns you have, as well as offering plenty of time for tea and coffee.
Discussing the group, Day Hospice Manager at St. Vincent’s Hospice, Sarah Mitchell, said: “We know the major impact that helping to care for loved ones with many different illnesses can have on so many people across the community every day. At St. Vincent’s, for the last 30 years we have been committed to not only being there for our patients, but supporting the entire family and those closest to them during some of the most difficult times of their life.
“Our Carers Group will not only give you the practical skills you need, but also gives you the chance to meet other people going through similar situations. To have a chat, to hear other experiences and offer a safe place for you to talk through your concerns or worries.”
The course includes information about personal care, basic moving and handling advice, financial guidance, information about equipment, other support outlets available and much more.
Sarah added: “We have received some fantastic feedback from previous groups and can help make a real difference in your day to day life. If you are a carer in the Renfrewshire area, please get in touch and come along to our first session.”
